UK vs US Covers #11 - A Million Suns by Beth Revis

UK vs US Book Covers is a feature on Books Worth Remembering. I've seen it done on other blogs and thought it was a really great idea because I am strongly opinionated when it comes to having different book covers!

In my mind there is a very clear winner - The US cover. When covers are changed midway through a series it really annoys me, especially when there is no need and when the replacement is less appealing (Don't even get me started on Insurgent). I love the US cover because it is bright, beautiful, would definitely stand out and make me want to buy it and also matches Across the Universe's cover.

The UK cover not only annoyed me because now my books don't match (yes I'm one of those people) but because the characters look nothing like they are supposed to. Amy is blonde/brown where she is supposed to be a red head (and seems quite tan). But the most annoying is Elder, I know there was the big controversy with white washing with the Across the Universe cover but I haven't seen any outcry for this. Elder is supposed to be mono-ethnic yet now he looks like just another white guy on any other YA cover.

So the US cover wins by a long shot. I however, sadly own the UK cover.

Which cover do you prefer? Which cover would you buy? Which one do you think stands out the most?

  1. US cover wins for me too. Why do they have to change the covers mid series in the UK so much!? I hate it too- I prefer my books to match and now they won't. Harumph x

  2. I like the US cover too :) another series that irked me with its drastic change in cover designs is Blood Red Road by Moira Young. The new cover is nice, but it just doesn't fit the theme set by the first book.

Lovely post! Thanks for following me :) you made my day!

  3. US hands down. I seriously don't know why UK/AU did this. We had a slight variation on the original cover of AtU, and they changed, and re-covered the first for AMS. I was sad... and ordered my books from US -__-
